Whether you're a woman already working as a professional, or a “newbie” just entering the business world, when it comes to first impressions, your handshake is the first step to becoming memorable.

A bad handshake communicates weakness and a lack of confidence.
A good handshake communicates warmth, sincerity and confidence!

So What Makes For a Good Handshake?

  • Make Eye Contact. Acknowledging the person you are about to meet is a crucial first step to success.
  • If you are sitting down, rise to standing position.
  • Look them directly in the eye and smile.
  • Set the tone for the rest of the meeting.
  • Firm handshake, aim your grip to be as firm as if you were gripping a golf swing.
  • Keep your grip to a couple of seconds (or shakes).
